Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour or bread flour for extra chewiness
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder no yeast needed for this quick version
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup plain yogurt Greek-style works best
  • 2 tablespoons milk adjust as needed for dough texture
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter or ghee plus extra for brushing
  • 1 clove garlic minced (optional, for garlicky naan)

Notes

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Mix the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add yogurt, milk, and melted butter. Mix until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.

2. Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rest for 10 minutes . This helps make the naan soft and easier to roll out.

3. Divide the Dough

Divide the dough into 8 small balls (about the size of a golf ball). These will be rolled into mini naan breads.

4. Roll Out Each Piece

On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a small oval shape — about ¼ inch thick.

5. Cook on Stovetop or Oven

You have two options:
  • Stovetop Method: Heat a skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1–2 minutes per side , until golden brown spots appear and they puff slightly.
  • Oven Method: Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) . Place naan on a baking sheet and bake for 6–8 minutes , or until puffed and lightly charred in spots.

6. Brush with Butter & Garlic

As soon as the naan comes out, brush it with melted butter or ghee. For garlicky naan, mix in a few drops of garlic paste or sprinkle minced garlic on top while still warm.

7. Serve Warm

Enjoy your mini naan fresh out of the pan or oven! Perfect for dipping, serving with curries, or snacking on its own.
